Leigo and the Environment

Deforestation has economic and environmental consequences. It leads to firewood shortages and it adversely affects living conditions -- especially of people in the rural areas. Every day, more forest is disappearing. Wood prices have increased significantly over the past several years and are becoming alarmingly expensive for the poor. If rural Cambodians want bricks, the road conditions are poor and transport doesn't guarantee the fragile bricks to be delivered in one piece.

This is where Leigo comes into play. Leigo does not use these environmentally devastating techniques, and is relatively cheap to produce (using materials found around the commune) -- making it cost-effective. It is just as durable as other building materials, and it leads to increased economic development in rural areas.
